It seemed to me that this film often jumped from scene to unrelated scene, with no explanation. It was sort of like a live-action Cliff's Notes--the book's greatest hits. I followed it OK, but I had read the book. I have friends who had not done so, and they had some questions.
Don't get me wrong. I really liked the movie. I just enjoyed the other installments more. The senes that actually made it into the film were done very well. Cuarón did a great job handling the franchise's transition from feel-good kid's story to darker drama.
